Ventricular fibrillation

Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a life-threatening arrhythmia that has a high likelihood of recurrence. An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) – a small electronic device placed inside the body where it monitors heart rhythm – is required to treat VF. Medications are seldom effective in treating VF, and ablation is tried only in very rare cases.
